Liverpool Girls' High School has won the prestigious MIL-PRA award
in the Secondary Student's Category.
Saturday 18 September 2010
On Saturday 18 September it was announced at the MIL-PRA Awards Ceremony at the Casula Powerhouse that our entry to the 2010 MIL-PRA Arts award won first place in the Secondary Students division. The work is hanging in a prime location at the Casula Powerhouse just above the main entry. Mrs Coleman, Head Teacher Creative and Performing Arts, accepted the award on behalf of the students who created the work. She said that about 250 students were involved in some way in contributing to the work and the finished product that was submitted to the competition. 'The work was completed with the assistance of Adam Hill an Aboriginal Artist who was the school's artist in residence.' Mrs Coleman paid tribute to Mr Hill's inspiration and guidance that he gave to the girls who were part of the program.
The piece is a magnificent piece. The colours are inspired from the land and depict Aboriginal culture through the images created. 'It is like a big map' Mrs Coleman said.
The school was given a trophy in recognition for the work and will be placed in the school foyer. This is the second year in a row that Liverpool Girls' High School has been awarded first place in the MIL-PRA arts competition student category. Last year's work takes pride of place as the focal point of the school cafe.
